Mathieu Filion
I love life, everything about life. Work and play are both very important to me. Although I put everything I have into my work, I still make sure to enjoy my free time. It’s a question of balance.
After my studies in economics, international trade, and political science as part of my science degree at Université de Montréal, I launched myself into a career in the frenetic world of politics. This quickly taught me that every single public communication is critical, and especially that nothing should be left to chance. Politics was and remains a great teacher. I always encourage people to get involved, whatever the level or the party affiliation.
Before joining CASACOM in March 2010, I worked for the Quebec Liberal Party, federal transport minister Jean Lapierre, Liberal leadership candidate Bob Rae, and in the cabinet of official opposition leader Michael Ignatieff, always assuming positions relating to communications and strategy. I also had a chance to get hands on experience with communications during both provincial and federal election periods. This allowed me to discover what the word “pressure” meant and experience “crisis management” right up close.
During the October 2008 federal election I worked in the Quebec “war room,” the place where all strategic campaign decisions are made. This unique electoral experience was a fascinating opportunity to learn how to juggle a multitude of media demands together with those of the candidates.
Between these forays into politics, I was vice president of a public relations firm from 2006 to 2009. There, I developed my expertise in consulting and client account management. This experience led me to join the CASACOM team, to help our clients successfully tackle the communications challenges they face.
So much for my job! Away from the office, you might find me trying out a new restaurant, meandering through a museum, or engaged in discussions with my friends, to name a few favorites pastimes.
And how about you? How do you like to spend your free time?
